Having dental implants is a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
They are by far the best way to replace a missing or several missing teeth. The benefits are that they do not require the support of the surrounding teeth like a bridge would. They are permanent, unlike a removable denture and they look and behave in a very natural way, just like your normal teeth. They will also last as long as a normal tooth if they are looked after properly.
However, are you a suitable candidate for dental implants? Firstly you need bone height and density to enable us to get good stability with the implant. We usually tell whether the bone is adequate from an X-ray. Secondly, you need to have a reasonable periodontal condition. If you don’t currently have good gums, it’s not a problem, we can spend a bit of time with our specialist periodontist, Dipali, or one of our hygienists, getting them better.
Is your lifestyle suitable for implants? Are you a smoker? Do you have immune problems? Do you clean your teeth regularly and are you happy to follow our aftercare advice. All of these factors play a significant part in the long term success of having dental implants placed.
At Tonbridge Dental Centre we work very hard with you to mitigate any risk factors you may have to help you achieve long term success with you teeth.
